Sorenson sent:
We have two guys we want to talk about. Dylan is an investigator and Wilson is his
fellowshipper. Dylan is killin’ the game
right now. Dylan is a half-Filipino-Chinese-Malay
speaking animal. His friend Wilson is
preparing to go on a mission. It’s just
great. They make a great team. Dylan’s getting ready for baptism. He could probably be baptized in a week…in
the ocean! We’re going to make him
finish 1 Nephi first.
We have a couple we call Siam, because one is Sam and the
other is Iam. We found them last
transfer at a food court. We talked to
them on the spot. They were really busy
with work, so they didn’t get to talk to us for about a month and a half. They texted us one day and said, “Hey, let’s
meet at the church.” Now they are way
solid. They are really sincere and ready
to learn. He always goes for the double
handed hand shake like the bishops always do.
Iam really wants to understand her relationship with God.
We have Vincent who has a wife named Natasha. Vincent is our investigator. He’s getting baptized April 7th. He is Chinese. He speaks Hawken and Iban, English and
Malay. He’s very sincere. He quit smoking, and he’s ready for
baptism. You’ll see that picture
soon.

We’ve got Mike and Milani.
We taught them the Word of Wisdom this week. They were a little sad about the coffee and
tea. They understand that it is showing
faith to follow it. They are really
awesome. We found them awhile back in an
apartment building. They are two
brothers who are 16 and 22. They just
kind of bounce off each other. They are
ready to come to church. They figured
out they had an uncle in the church who helped us out a lot too. When they were leaving after we taught them
the Word of Wisdom Mike said, “I’m gonna go play (Doda?) now. Is that against the Word of Wisdom?” We told him no that he was good.
Henry and Poloma, and Robert, Ben and Karen possibly might
have been anti-ed either by Henry or by one of his friends. The problem is whenever we have a sweet
miracle of finding one crazy good family and then they have a big friend group,
if you teach them all together one friend gets upset or anti and it ruins it
all. That’s kind of what happened. They sent us pictures of their certificates
in the Baptist church, and then…see ya later.
Biggest miracle of the week…is Raymond and Christi. Elder Sorenson, a long time ago, was knocking
doors in this huge apartment complex he saw a Mormon Jesus picture on the
door. As we know the Mormon Jesus
picture looks different from the other ones, so we knew to knock on the
door. We talked to the person who
opened the door. He said that picture
was from his father-in-law a long time ago.
He didn’t know anything about our church. He was very sincere. First, Ibans are very serious about
appointments. They care about meeting on
time. They care about life. (Sarcasm) We knocked in the morning and he said to come
back at 9:00. We told him that was
really close to our curfew at 10:00. I
said, “Okay, can.” We went back at 9:00
and he said, “Yeah…we had a family barbeque, but I didn’t go, because I
remembered my promise to meet with you”.
We were like, “wait..whoa whoa.”
He’s Iban, but he kept his appointment!
We shared the restoration and about how this is The Church of Jesus
Christ. He said, “Wait, is there one in
Kuching that has a special priesthood so I could get baptized?” We told him yes! We asked him to say the closing prayer. At first, he had doubts, but when he said the
prayer the Spirit pierced to the very soul.
He said, “I don’t want this feeling to leave me.” We helped him to recognize that it was the
Holy Spirit. This week the focus has
been “This Day” by Elder Eyring so we used that. We said, “This day you choose to go to church.” Randomly he decided to quit smoking and
drinking, which was crazy cool, especially since he’s Iban. Drinking is what Ibans are all about. It’s like BYU football to most Mormons. He came to church! He rushed home Saturday night before 10:00
and came to church the next day with his wife.
We had members help them find the church in Iban, which was cool.

We found a blind lady before we found Raymond. She’s really sincere, and she could use a
phone! It was so weird to see her typing
in stuff on that phone. It was nice to
see her spirit of humility and love, because she’s just a nice lady. She asked us for a braille Bible. We might try to see if we can get her a
braille Book of Mormon. Those things are
huge though—bigger than the brass plates or the Golden Plates.
Then on Saturday we had an awesome activity. We did something like an institute class,
cleaned the church, had KFC, then played some footsall (soccer?). We did it with our four investigators so it
was fun. I landed on my toe when we were
playing soccer and I think I may have actually broken it. We walked to church, so it’s not too
bad. It was fun to get to know everyone
better. It was a great time.
At district meeting last Tuesday, Elder Sorenson conducted a
very nice district meeting. Our theme
for this week is “This Day” a talk by President Eyring. It was way good. It helped us out a lot. If you choose this day to do your best at
everything you do, and put God first, the next day will be better. It’s true!
We post the most. The zone has a
group text thing. You are supposed to
post all of your miracles. Obviously, we
post the most. It’s a lot of fun.
It was my mom’s birthday just a few days ago. We set a goal to get 3 new investigators to
celebrate her birthday, but we only got 2.
We still celebrated her birthday by getting more investigators though. We only had 2 on mom’s birthday, but now we have
7 new investigators this week. The
average is about 1 in the zone. God is
loving us! We got nine investigators to
church.
When we were walking to church we found a dead biawak. It’s a lizard. Normally they are pretty big, but this was a
baby one. They are like mini Komodo dragons. We got an awesome picture and sent it to the
zone saying, “Hey, don’t be road kill on Sunday. Go ham.”
It rained a ton this week.
The rain got so deep the pedals on our bikes were hitting the
water. We just stopped, because it was
so deep.

We went to a mall on Saturday. They were having a Mr. Kuching pageant so
there were all these ripped guys walking around. Elder Sorenson decided to walk around like a
ripped guy acting like he’s their buddy.
He tried to make himself look really bulky and just walked around
saying, “Hey, Mr. Kuching!” It was
really funny. They were laughing. We also ate at Subway, because there is a
Subway in Kuching.
We got a biking app on our phone so we can see how fast and
how far we bike. It turns out that we
bike 30 km per day, which is 210 km per week, which is 126 miles per week. That’s far…that’s enough to get your biking
merit badge or something.
Yesterday for lunch we made chicken pot pie without the
crust. We had carrots, green peas,
onions, corn, chicken with cream of chicken.
It was good. I definitely can eat
more vegetables now than I could before my mission.
We are trying to get some solid investigators at the church
to help build the kingdom. It turns out
that our investigators are a little more solid than our members. They roast our members because they aren’t
good teachers. We told one investigator
he could be the next teacher for second hour.
Monday night Elder McCusker had this hydrogen peroxide
baking soda stuff. He mixed it up,
because he was going to brush his teeth with it. It’s supposed to whiten your teeth. When he was brushing he said it was stinging
really bad, but he kept brushing. He
stopped and said, “Elder Mullins, my gums are white.” His gums literally turned white from brushing
his teeth with this stuff. The were as
white as his teeth. It was really bad,
but funny.

We are going to Singapore!
In Singapore we’ll have a lot of fun.
We’ll have a day 12-6 to live it up.
