Elder Ben Mullins: Dunkage and Conference

Hey Everyone!

This week was awesome! We had two baptisms, Elvina and Vincent, and General Conference was watched! It was a really good conference! I felt like on this round of conference, I learned a lot from the spirit. I had a lot of thoughts and impressions that weren't super related to what was said in the conference, but I'm excited to use the knowledge I gained for sure!

Monday, we cleaned out the font because the rust from the firehose last week made it disgusting. We bleached it and made it super shiny and ready for our baptism that happened yesterday. After that, we just asked riddles to each other for a while, then went ham at night time finding new people. We found 3 new people! Igat is the coolest one. He's moving to KL in a bit. I think he'll get baptized though. He's pretty solid.

Tuesday... We met with Peter, and he's super solid. He came to 4 hours of general conference, and he's totally planning on getting baptized. Everyone in the branch thinks he's getting baptized with Dylan and Milani next week, but he's still new. Haha! He's been learning for 2 weeks and he's already planning on getting baptized. Oh, we also taught a bunch of new people, and they're ok lah, but not super solid.

Wednesday. All of the days blur together, so I'm just giving like one or two details out of each day. We met with Peter again, met with Dylan. All of the young men say that Dylan and Peter have the same face. They have similar faces for sure, but Peter looks more Chinese. We also coordinated a lot with the branch for baptisms and callings and stuff. Then we went to Igat's house to teach him, and his entire family was over and had a massive feast. Sooooo we got sucked into a feast. You can't leave until the last person is done eating. It's rude to leave before then. The food was really good! One of his sisters owns a restaurant and cooked some wayyyy good chicken. There was this crazy clotted pig blood stuff. He kept calling it darah babi, which is pig blood, but it was in chunks. It was kind of weird tasting. But it had some veggies in it that covered the taste, and if you ate it with the chicken and rice, it wasn't bad! The family was so happy that they could feed two white guys from church. They asked Elder Sorensen to say lead in the prayer, and they were all Catholic, When Elder Sorensen prayed, it was a little different than what they were expecting I think. But it was good! Hahaha! Awkward moments.

Thursday, the sisters asked us to teach their investigator since they were sick, so we taught him. His wife was so happy that Elders were teaching her husband instead of Sisters. She thought the Sisters just couldn't connect with him. Haha! It was kind of awkward, because I think we were permanently teaching him, but it was just a one-time thing. We taught Vincent, and he's super solid (he got baptized, so of course he's solid), and Adrian and Alana from KK were at his house! Alana's sister married Vincent, so they came for the baptism! That was fun to see them again! Adrian also baptized his niece! So that was good. After that we ran over to Raymond and Tracy's house, and they're suuuuper solid! Raymond said that he'd do whatever it took to get Sundays off so that he could go to all 3 hours of church! He wants to strengthen his faith a lot. He's way good. Super solid. His wife is really starting to like the gospel. She likes the family stuff a lot. We're excited for them. Their baptism should be coming up within the next month or two.

Friday, I went on exchanges with Elder McCusker. We met this really funny Chinese guy named Aaron while we were biking. He was across the street, so we called him over, got to know him. It turns out he moved to Kuching from Miri to find a roller blading coach to teach him how to rollerblade like a boss. He's literally training to become a professional roller blader. What an animal. He's wayyyy funny. He also came to 3 sessions of general conference the day after we met him and the day after that one! So that's awesome! He's actually really solid. Haha!

Saturday, we literally watched conference all day. They spaced the sessions out terribly, so it was super hard to do anything, but conference was awesome! President Nelson is an awesome prophet! Elder McCusker's friend was roommates with Elder Bednar back in college. He went to get dinner with Elder Bednar after the conference, and he said, "Wow, Elder Bednar, there was so much new revelation! The church changed so much this conference!" to which Elder Bednar responded, "You better buckle up, because there's a lot more coming." So. Lots of change is coming to the church. Get excited and be prepared!!! It's gonna be an awesome time!

Sunday, conference all day: Dylan, Mike, and Milani all passed their baptismal interviews!!! They'll all be getting baptized too! Dylan was actually my first new investigator I got in Kuching! Haha, and he's getting baptized! He was ready for the gospel. He's super solid. He's half Filipino, so that's probably why. Four-week baptism... Unbelievable. Mike and Milani are super cool too. Really good guys.

Vincent and Elvina's baptism was awesome! It was a super good service, and the baptisms were smoothly done, the font was filled in time, and it was a really good end of the week! We'll have 5 confirmations in Sacrament next week! That's pretty cool!

That was my week! It was awesome! Kuching is still going strong! We're loving every minute! The transfer has like 2 weeks left! That's crazy! It was a quick transfer for sure! We'll keep going! And we'll probably be together for another transfer or two after this! Thanks!
